    ABOUT

    Kedartal Trek

Kedar Tal, also known as Shiva’s Lake, is a glacial lake in India’s Garhwal area that sits at an elevation of 4,750 meters (15,600 feet). The lake is fed by snowfall on the surrounding peaks of Mt Thalay Sagar (6,904m), Meru (6,672m), Mt Bhrigupanth (6,772m), and others, which are also the source of Kedar Ganga, which is considered Lord Shiva’s contribution to Bhagirathi in Hindu mythology (a source-stream of the Ganges). The proximity to majestic peaks, as well as the view that this trek provides, will make you believe in magic. The lake is a true gem of Uttarakhand, with crystal-clear blue water and the coolest drink of water you’ll ever find. Read More

    DETAILed ITINERARY

Day 1: Drive from Dehradun to Gangotri (242 Km)

Your road trip starts from Dehradun & ends in Gangotri, Uttarakhand, which is the starting point for the trek to Kedartal. Arrive in Gangotri by 3 p.m. for a debriefing and a round of team introductions. Visit the Holy Temple, stroll through the pine woods, browse the local market, strike up a conversation with a Sadhu, explore the underground cave, and enjoy a delicious dinner. Staying at a nearby guest house for the night.

Day 2: Gangotri to Bhoj Kharak (8 Kms trek)

Trek starts after a healthy breakfast from Gangotri. You do some serious ascending for the day with the Kedar Ganga faithfully trailing you on your left. The fresh pines fade away as you ascend, replaced by a dense grove of birch trees. This leads to our first campsite, Bhoj Kharak. The purple rhododendrons wave in the distance, and the birch trees provide much-needed shade. Thalaysagar’s stunningly jagged façade entices you from afar, beckoning you to discover what awaits you on Day 3. The Spider Wall is the day’s final challenge, a 60-degree slab of rock with only enough footing to get you to the other end. At Bhoj Kharak, you will spend the night in a camp.

Day 3: Bhoj Kharak to Kedar Kharak (7 Kms trek)

Today is an exciting day. As you continue to climb slowly, you’ll note that a landslide a few years ago washed out a 100-meter section of the original trail, and it’s up to us to find a new route around the mountainside. Following that, you’ll come across a safe path that leads you down to the Kedar Gunga riverbed, which you must partially cross before returning to solid ground on the other side, which now leads to your next campsite, Kedar Kharak. A truly stunning campsite nestled between the Drigubanth, Thalaysagar, and Jogin 3 hills. Herds of blue sheep regularly visit Kedar Kharak.

Day 4: Kedar Kharak to Kedar Tal to Kedar Kharak (8 Kms trek)

The last leg of the journey to the stunning Kedar Tal is a climb up three ridges, which are mostly made up of deposited boulders with an occasional dirt path running through them. Cairns of rock towers dot the landscape, showing the trail’s course. After summiting the two ridges, you get a glimpse of the final peak, which makes you wonder what sights lie beyond it. Kedar Tal lake, which sits like a frozen emerald below after ascending the third ridge, looks like a frozen emerald. The massive views of Thalaysagar and other peaks make all your problems seem trivial. On your left, the Kedar glacier, the source of the river you’ve grown accustomed to flowing by your side, flows motionlessly. We descend and return to Kedar Kharak after bidding farewell to the divine Kedar Tal. Camps are where you will spend the night.

Day 5: Kedar Kharak to Gangotri (15 Kms trek)

We’ve completed the difficult part and are on our way home! The trail to Gangotri is almost entirely downhill, considering the considerable distance to travel. Back in Gangotri, you’ll be rewarded with a soft, warm bed and a chance to see the famous aarti. The next morning, head home.

    Day 6: Gangotri – Uttarkashi – Dehradun (242 km)

After breakfast, check out. If you’ve made a reservation with us, the vehicle will pick you up from Gangotri and drop you off in Dehradun in the evening.
