ABOUT
Mt. Kun Peak EXPEDITION
The second highest mountain of the Nun Kun range, Mt. Kun (7077M), is found in the upper Suru Valley. The twin peaks of Nun (7135M) and Kun (7135M) are separated by a 4km long snow plateau and are among the highest peaks in the Zanskar Range on the Indian side of the Line of Control. Along the Kashmir-Zanskar boundary, Mt. Nun and Kun, as well as Barmal, White Needle, and Pinnacle Peak, form a horseshoe above the Suru River. The trek to Mt. Kun is exclusively for experienced mountaineers who want to climb peaks that are 8000 metres or higher. It is necessary to have prior experience with technical and mountaineering skills such as the use of ice axes, rope up operations, crampons, and jumar climbing. This adventure helps you move from trekking peaks to climbing summits and acts as a preparation expedition for several 8000M+ peaks. The Mt. Kun expedition is ideal for mountaineers who have already summited summits of above 6500 metres.

DETAILed ITINERARY
Day1: Arrive in Leh
Take a flight to Leh first thing in the morning. Despite its brief duration, the journey provides breathtaking vistas of the Himalayan range from Himachal Pradesh to Jammu & Kashmir. Make your way to your accommodation. The remainder of the day will be spent relaxing and visiting local markets.
Day2: Acclimatisation Day at Leh
In Leh, spend the day relaxing and acclimating. At your leisure, stroll across the lively city.
Day3: From Leh to Chang Ma via Stok village
Before beginning our Nun climb, we will travel to Stok Kangri Base Camp to help us acclimate to the high mountains of Ladakh. This is the day when we will have a fantastic drive and a memorable trekking adventure. This day will surprise you if you haven’t walked in Laddakh previously. The breathtaking scenery of the region will transport you to another dimension. The granite mountain peaks all around seem flawless, as if they were painted on canvas. The day will be challenging, owing to the fact that it will be your first time walking in this area. The town of Stok is located south of Leh and is notable for its royal palace. A modest museum with elegant and holy relics is located within the palace. As soon as we get at Chang Ma, we will set up camp. After a short acclimatisation hike, we’ll set up camp.
Day4: From Chang Ma to Mankorma
Today’s hike is a short one along a river. We’ll have to cross a few water streams. Ladakh’s true splendour will begin to emerge today. A large Parachute café can be seen in Mankorma. After a brief acclimatisation hike, we’ll pitch our tents and settle down. Mankarmo camping is a wonderful experience.
Day5: From Mankorma to Stok BC
We arrive at the base camp after a few hours of trekking from Mankorma. It’s a grassy area with a number of water bodies, such as lakes and streams. Take advantage of the day to hike up to the top area and take in the scenery. There are numerous stunning peaks in the area, including Gulap Kangri, Parcha Kangri, and others. You’ll have plenty of time to acclimate to this altitude. This is critical since you will encounter a significant increase in altitude in the following days, as well as thin air and a shortage of oxygen. Keep yourself warm by wearing appropriate clothes, as the temperature here may be quite low.
Day6: From Stok BC to Leh via Stok Village
We’ll go back to Stok village today to retrace our steps. We’ll board a car to Leh from here. Check into your accommodations and complete any last-minute shopping. We’ll go for Kargil tomorrow.
Day7: Stay in Leh
We’ll spend today in Leh resting and preparing for our forthcoming excursion to Mt. Nun.
Day8: From Leh to Tangol
Today we continue our road trip from Leh to Tangol, heading towards the Suru valley. The Nun – Kun massif appears for the first time. At Tangol, spend the night in the camp.
Day9: From Tangol to Kun Base Camp
The trail begins at Tangol, which is located at an elevation of roughly 12,000 feet. Only a few houses and a police station make up the settlement, which is only populated during the summer. The trail to base camp passes across broad meadows and then via a rocky glacier moraine.
Day10: Acclimatisation at Base Camp
Complete rest day.
Day11: From Base Camp – Camp 1
We are reopening the road and ferrying cargo to Camp 1 today. The path to Camp 1 takes you through moraine near the Shafat glacier’s base. For the night, return to Base Camp.

Today, the entire squad will relocate to Camp 1.
Day13: Acclimatisation at Camp 1

Today’s ferry cargoes are headed to Camp 2. Between Camps 1 and 2, the trail traverses the glacier and then follows mixed rock and ice slopes of 45° to 50°. This section of the climb is the most difficult, requiring about 1000 metres of fixed rope to reach Camp 2. For the night, return to Camp 1.
Day15: From Camp 1 to Camp 2
Team will moves towards camp 2.
Day16: From Camp 2 to Camp 3 and again to Camp 2
Today, a few members of the crew will open the way to summit camp. We rope up and traverse a vast snow plateau that divides Nun and Kun to pitch up camp at the base of the summit ridge from Camp 2 to Camp 3. The plateau stretches for around 4 kilometres, and the crew must be roped in to avoid concealed crevasses beneath the snowfield. For the night, return to Camp 2.
Day17: From Camp 2 to Camp 3
Today, the entire team will be moving to summit camp.
Day18: Summit Attempt
The path ascends sharply for 200 metres from Camp 3 at 6300 metres, on slopes of 50°, to a saddle between Kun and Pinncale mountain on the East ridge at 6500 metres. From here, the ridge is pursued to a false summit on 45° hard snow and ice. Easy slopes lead to the genuine top after traversing a few cornice features. Return to Camp 3 once more.
